New SLD Designed Bank Branch Opens in China

As one of China’s leading commercial banking groups, Industrial Bank recently partnered with strategic design agency, SLD, to redesign their branch experience. Focused on the principles of connection, sustainability, and innovation, the first prototype branch opened in February, striking the perfect balance between technology and human interaction.

“The new branch design for Industrial Bank is all about creating an environment in which customers can comfortably use digital equipment and also interact with employees,” says Jean-Pierre Lacroix, President of SLD. “It is always great to leverage the latest in technological innovations, but we didn’t want to lose the emotional connection that comes with face to face communication.”

Inside the branch, a warm, approachable, and flexible space utilizes a modular design that offers a personalized and engaging experience for customers. A curved wall in the waiting area symbolizes embracement, while large digital screens are able to display bank information, weather, and stocks. Throughout the space, green walls and LEED certified materials convey a sense of calm, and also demonstrate Industrial Bank’s commitment to sustainability.

“We are beyond excited with how the first branch turned out and can’t wait to see the design rolled out across China,” says Jean-Pierre.
